Mission
Statement The purpose of the Josh Platzer Society is to educate young adults, teens and the people around them about suicide prevention. We achieve this through providing resources in education and awareness on the topic of teen suicide to counselors, students, teachers and families. The Society raises funds for its activities through the Josh Platzer Memorial Fund. Donations to the fund are used to support the following ongoing activities: Teen Suicide Prevention Schools Program A one-hour presentation about teen suicide. The goal is give the audience an understanding of the facts, the causes, and very importantly the warning signs and what to do. The message is that awareness and openness about suicide can prevent a tragedy. Given at high schools, colleges, counselor and parent groups. Brochure Teen Suicide Prevention & Awareness brochure. Contains facts about teen suicide, how to recognize suicidal behaviour and who to contact. Distributed free of charge at schools, libraries and retail outlets. Posters Teen Suicide Prevention & Awareness poster Silence Kills. Distributed free of charge at schools, libraries and retail outlets. Poster for 2007 World Suicide Prevention Day displayed at bus shelters in the Vancouver Lower Mainland. DVDs A docudrama about teen suicide, interspersed with interviews and professional insights through which families can learn to recognize the warning signs of an impending crisis. Distributed free of charge upon request.
